Meelfabriek Loft
Build started May 2024, delivery autumn 2024
Creating intimate places and keeping the openness of the Loft
Using the classic three way separation of columns, capital and basement to a new order of a concrete brutalist capital, concrete decagon column and a white basement
Surrounding terraces as green intermediate filter of light and air from the city
Continues flow of space throughout the loft
Outdoors as an extension of the interior
Multifunctional use of several rooms
Sitting room like a stage, higher to overlook the city of Leiden
Intimate Places
The main living in this former factory building flows around the brutalist concrete columns, some more intimate space was created by semi enclosing and subtile lifting of the floor
All bookshelf’s, cabinets, semi open room dividers are custom made
An enclosed sitting place, lower study lounge place share an open cabinet with integrated TV, stereo, etc
Inbetween Spaces
Two rooms are disconnected from the free flowing Loft space
Here the subtile barrier of a hidden door or underpass needs te be taken to enter
Both rooms have slender detailed book- and light shelf above the beds
Aswell as integrated wardrobe closets and a small study
Entry And Bathing
Using only Plywood and white PU and compound materials all bathrooms fit in the overall scheme of the design
Multifunctional
Part of the free flowing Loft Space is this office
But don’t get fooled the closets contain a double folding bed so this room can easily be transformed in a guestroom or a third bedroom
